Congratulations to our September Athlete of the Month, Paul Ridgeway.  If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Paul in the gym, you should seek him out as it is most sure to be a positive encounter.  He is one of the most genuine, funny and caring guy you will ever meet.  Paul enters the gym with a smile on his face, and he is always ready for a challenge or to challenge someone else.  He is one of those guys you see walk in the gym, and you can’t help but get a smile on your face. Frankly, he puts everyone in a better mood.  I can’t imagine our community without Paul; he is one of a kind!

1. What is your background in athletics or briefly tell us about yourself?
Baseball and basketball were my main sports. I also dabbled in tennis, golf, and football. Yoga became a big part of my life in my late twenties.

2. How did you get started in CrossFit?
I got started in CrossFit because I couldn’t find the willpower to do my own regimen at a globo-gym. I wanted something that kept me moving with purpose and intensity. Work associates and a former high school classmate had mentioned CrossFit at various points in my past. It seemed too frequent to be coincidence, so I looked up CFSF, stopped in, and I’ve been coming to classes ever since.

3. What is your favorite part about CrossFit/?
Intensity and community. I like that I can get an intense, full-body workout in under an hour. The people are wonderful as well. Being able to laugh, suffer, and connect with people has been an unexpected perk of being at CFSF.

4. How has CrossFit or working out in general changed your life?
The physical benefits of CrossFit are undeniable: strength, speed, endurance; they’ve all been improved. But the mental aspects have been the most rewarding. In the almost two years of doing CrossFit, I’ve been able to rework my thinking into a more positive place. The one hour a day at the gym is my time to be present and intentional. The 6AM class is the best possible way to start my day.

5. What made you choose CrossFit Sioux Falls?
A quick Google search is how I chose CFSF. I kept coming because of the coaches and the people. I could see a fun group of like-minded people wanting to find the best versions of themselves, something I didn’t know I was looking for until I signed up.

6. What would you tell your before CrossFit self?
I would tell him that he’s about to find an essential ingredient for furthering his life in a positive way. I would also tell him to start sooner. I wish I would have found CrossFit in my twenties.

Great Job and Congratulations on being our September Athlete of the Month Paul!
