Many of you have probably seen Facebook posts for our 6th annual Fittest of The Falls competition coming up Saturday, November 11. For the first time, this event will double as a fundraiser, and we will be donating to a great cause in the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
The Special Operations Warrior Foundation ensures full financial assistance for a post-secondary degree from an accredited two or four-year college, university, technical, or trade school; and offers family and educational counseling, including in-home tutoring, to the surviving children of Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations personnel who lose their lives in the line of duty. The Special Operations Warrior Foundation also provides immediate financial assistance to severely wounded and hospitalized special operations personnel.
This event has the potential to be a great occasion. We have had a lot of success with our WOD-athon events the past two years, raising money for 2 special causes within the Sioux Falls community. With FOF-6, however, we have some additional assistance from CrossFit gyms throughout the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska; what an opportunity!
There are several ways you can get involved. As always, we can use help with running the event (setting up equipment, scoring, judging). If you cannot be here the day of the event, you can still assist with the fundraiser. We are asking for both cash donations and items to give as raffle prizes that we will sell through a silent auction. These donations can be large or small and don’t necessarily need to be CrossFit-related, though we do ask that they are of universal value for those coming from out of town. You can also learn more about online fundraising opportunities by checking out some of the useful resources on the GoFundMe website. Team donations work great, so grab a group of people, pool some money and buy a cool item (or package of item) and we will have fun raffling off and raising money for this great cause.
